Fierce
Eau de Cologne · 2002
Room for several wears.
Hand-filled from an original bottle into a Cabinet Noir vial, under our own label. Cabinet Noir is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Abercrombie & Fitch.
The composition
Fierce opens with lemon, orange and a clean snap of fir, lifted by a cool sea-breeze note and a pinch of cardamom. Rosemary and sage keep the heart fresh and green, with a soft floral edge, before sandalwood, vetiver and musk settle it into a smooth, clean woodiness.
It is the smell of the 2000s mall, bright and freshly showered. A natural pick for warm days and busy mornings, and a clean everyday scent that is easy to reach for.
How it wears
Fierce is a daytime scent first. Fragrantica voters place it in spring and summer but still give fall a strong share, so it works through most of the year. The fir and citrus are loudest at the start; after that it settles into clean musk and soft woods that suit the office, class or a night out with friends. Parfumo voters rate its longevity and sillage evenly, so it keeps a steady, clean presence.
Compared with
- Cool WaterDavidoff
- Fragrantica's review of Fierce sets it apart from classic fougères like Cool Water. Cool Water leans on mint, lavender and salty sea air; Fierce is greener and woodier, with fir, citrus and a musky sandalwood base.
- Acqua di GiòGiorgio Armani
- Acqua di Giò is the more marine of the two, with bergamot, neroli and a salty sea note over cedar. Fierce puts fir, sage and musk in front and wears woodier and muskier.

Questions about Fierce
Does Fierce smell the same as it used to?
Close, but not identical. Fragrantica's review of Fierce says reformulations over the years have made it slightly cleaner, less sweet and more laundry-fresh, where early bottles were a bit fruitier and sweeter. Abercrombie & Fitch still describes Fierce with marine breeze, sandalwood and musky woods.
Is bottled Fierce the same as the Abercrombie store scent?
Not exactly. Christophe Laudamiel, the perfumer behind Fierce, told MEL Magazine that Abercrombie & Fitch asked for the formula to be rebalanced for its in-store spraying machines because the oakmoss felt heavy in the air, so the bottled cologne differs slightly from what the stores sprayed.
Do Abercrombie stores still smell like Fierce?
No. In 2017 Abercrombie & Fitch replaced Fierce as its in-store scent with a new fragrance, Ellwood, as part of a rebrand, Refinery29 reported. The cologne itself was never withdrawn, and A&F still sells Fierce on its US site.
Who created Abercrombie & Fitch Fierce?
Christophe Laudamiel, then at IFF, told MEL Magazine that he developed Fierce from a starting formula by Carlos Benaim, and that it launched in 2002. Fragrantica also credits Bruno Jovanovic. Abercrombie & Fitch does not name a perfumer.
