The composition
Acqua di Giò opens with a splash of Calabrian bergamot, green tangerine and neroli over a cool, salty marine note. Jasmine, rosemary and a soft touch of persimmon keep the heart airy and a little sweet, before cedarwood, patchouli and white musk dry it down clean and smooth.
It smells like a '90s summer on the Mediterranean, sunlit and easygoing. A natural pick for warm days and beach weekends, and for anyone who remembers it on the bathroom shelf.
How it wears
Acqua di Giò is at home in summer, and Fragrantica voters agree, placing it in summer, spring and daytime well ahead of evening. The bergamot and salty marine note are brightest at first; later the jasmine and rosemary give way to cedar and white musk, which reads clean at the office or the beach. Parfumo voters rate its longevity and sillage as moderate, and Basenotes reviewers split on how long it lasts.

Which Acqua di Giò is this?
This is the original Acqua di Giò Eau de Toilette for men from 1996. It is a different fragrance from the later Profumo (2015), Profondo (2020), Eau de Parfum (2022), Parfum (2023) and Elixir, which each rework the marine theme with more depth and different materials.
Is Acqua di Giò Profumo the same as Acqua di Giò Parfum?
They are separate releases. Acqua di Giò Profumo launched in 2015 and has been discontinued; Armani released Acqua di Giò Parfum in 2023 in a refillable bottle, and Fragrantica describes it as Profumo's replacement. Both are by Alberto Morillas and share a bergamot, marine, patchouli and incense structure.
Is Acqua di Giò discontinued?
No. Armani still sells the original Acqua di Giò Eau de Toilette in the US, and restaged it in a new bottle in 2025. The flankers sit alongside it rather than replacing it.
Who created Acqua di Giò?
Armani does not credit a perfumer on its page. Fragrantica names Alberto Morillas, Annick Ménardo and Christian Dussoulier for the 1996 Acqua di Giò, and Morillas has since composed several flankers, including Profumo, Profondo and the Parfum.
