The composition

Moon Tale starts with raspberry, bright and juicy. A full bouquet follows: tender peony lifted by a green touch of geranium, then radiant jasmine sambac cooled by magnolia. Musks settle over the flowers in a fine, powdery veil.

The effect is close to good face powder and fresh petals, polished and a little glamorous. It suits evenings out, and anyone who enjoys a sweet floral with a cosmetic softness.

How it wears

Fragrantica voters place Moon Tale mostly in spring and summer and more often in daytime, though its polish also suits an evening out. The raspberry is brightest early. As it settles, Parfumo reviewers find magnolia and a powdery, soapy musk taking over, which some liken to fresh shampoo or face powder. Reports on performance vary, and the overall effect stays clean and polished rather than heavy.

Compared with

Tea StormLouis Vuitton
Its sibling in the Journey to China trio. Tea Storm leads with green lemongrass and a honeyed tea, with rose in the background. Moon Tale is the sweeter, more openly floral of the two, with raspberry and powdery musk.
Ink MarkLouis Vuitton
The trio's woody member, built on creamy sandalwood and white incense with a quiet rose. Ink Mark is calm and dry; Moon Tale is bright, fruity and floral from the first spray.

Questions about Moon Tale

What does Moon Tale smell like?

Moon Tale opens on raspberry, then moves to peony with a green touch of geranium, jasmine sambac and magnolia. It finishes on musks that Louis Vuitton describes as a powdery, cosmetic veil. The house drew it from the Chinese legend of the Four Beauties.

Is Moon Tale for women or men?

Moon Tale is listed as unisex, like the rest of the Journey to China trio. It is the sweetest and most floral of the three, and several reviewers say it leans feminine, while others wear it as an easy unisex everyday scent.

Who created Moon Tale?

Louis Vuitton credits its master perfumer, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. Parfumo and Jing Daily also name his daughter, Camille Cavallier Belletrud, as co-creator of the Journey to China trio, which includes Moon Tale, Ink Mark and Tea Storm.

When was Moon Tale released?

Louis Vuitton launched Moon Tale in China in October 2025 and released it more widely in August 2026. In the US it is sold on louisvuitton.com and in selected Louis Vuitton stores.
