Every Creed Aventus Compared: Original, Cologne, Absolu, For Her

Aventus, Aventus Cologne, Absolu Aventus and Aventus For Her: how the four differ, when each suits, and what Creed charges in the US.

In July 2010 Creed presented Aventus in America before any other country, with pre-orders at Neiman Marcus at $140 for 30 ml and $240 for 75 ml, Now Smell This reported. Today the 30 ml costs $270. When Kering bought Creed in 2023, Fragrantica's Elena Vosnaki wrote that Aventus accounted for much of the brand's desirability, and L'Oréal has owned the house since March 2026. Creed now sells four fragrances under the name. The short answer: Aventus is the fruity, smoky original; Aventus Cologne is the brighter, cleaner one for daytime and heat; Absolu Aventus is the denser, spiced evening version that lasts longest; and Aventus For Her trades the smoke for green apple and rose.

Aventus (2010): the original

The 2010 release described a fragrance about a great historic emperor who rode to power on horseback, and Creed has long named him as Napoleon; the bottle carries a silver horse and rider. The release credited Olivier Creed, who died on May 20, 2026. Fragrantica now credits Jean-Christophe Hérault with Erwin Creed, and our guide to Creed beyond Aventus explains why the credits differ.

Creed's notes are Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian lemon and blackcurrant leaf, then a pineapple accord with pink pepper and jasmine, over birch, patchouli and musk. On skin the first half hour is bright and fruity, pineapple and citrus with a tart edge. Then the birch comes through as dry smoke over a clean, musky base. Fragrantica files it as a fruity chypre, and its reviewers mostly reach for it in spring and summer, and in the daytime.

Aventus is also known for smelling a little different from bottle to bottle. Kafkaesque noted in 2013 that its scent "can vary from batch to batch," and in 2024 Fragrantica's Igor Masyukov wrote that the intensity of its smoky base has varied significantly between batches. Creed has never explained the differences. It suits someone who wants the fragrance the others are measured against, for most days and most seasons. Creed sells it at $270 for 30 ml, $380 for 50 ml and $510 for 100 ml.

Aventus For Her (2016): apple and rose

Aventus For Her arrived in June 2016, six years after the original. Creed's release spoke of powerful women from history, royalty, artists and writers among them, and called it "an olfactory celebration of vibrant and passionate femininity." Creed credits no perfumer.

Creed lists Sicilian lemon, Calabrian bergamot and green apple at the top, Bulgarian rose with pink pepper and the pineapple accord in the heart, and patchouli, birch and musk underneath. Fragrantica's older list adds violet, peach, styrax and sandalwood. It opens crisp and green with apple and lemon, then turns to rose and musk with an earthy patchouli finish. Reviewers on Fragrantica split on how close it sits to the men's Aventus: some find the same bright opening, others a fruity rose that stands on its own.

On paper it shares the bergamot, pineapple accord, birch and musk with Aventus; in wear the rose and apple replace most of the smoke. It suits anyone who likes the brightness of Aventus but wants something rosier and softer, and it sells in its own sizes: $310 for 30 ml and $460 for 75 ml.

Aventus Cologne (2019): the fresh one

Creed dates Aventus Cologne to 2019 and calls it a fresh take on Aventus. Its launch looked nothing like a heritage house's. Glossy reported that it began with a concert event with the streetwear publisher Highsnobiety on May 15, 2019, where only 50 bottles were offered at $435, ahead of its June 2 debut in stores, and that Creed would tag the name on sidewalks in New York City, Miami and Beverly Hills. Emmanuel Saujet, who ran Creed's North American distributor, told Glossy the company "took a gamble."

Despite the name, Creed labels it an Eau de Parfum, the same as Aventus. Its notes are Calabrian bergamot, mandarin and a salty marine accord, then ginger, the pineapple accord and pink pepper, over musk, patchouli and birch. It smells cleaner and more citrus than the original, with ginger and mandarin where Aventus has blackcurrant, and much less smoke. Fragrantica's Andrei Lensky described it as leaning toward a mineral aquatic.

Masyukov, who owns all three men's versions, wrote that Aventus Cologne works well for morning walks and sports. It suits hot weather, the office and anyone who finds the original too smoky. Creed sells it at $380 for 50 ml and $510 for 100 ml, the same as Aventus.

Absolu Aventus (2023): the evening one

Absolu Aventus was the first new Creed after the Kering purchase, as Fragrantica reported in August 2023. It came out as a limited edition in a black 75 ml bottle, and Masyukov reported that it returned to stores in October 2024 after six months out of stock, unchanged. Creed now sells it in 50, 100 and 490 ml bottles; Fragrantica keeps a separate page for the 2025 bottles with a shorter note list, though Creed has not said the formula changed.

Creed lists Calabrian bergamot, ginger and grapefruit at the top, cardamom, cinnamon and the pineapple accord in the heart, and labdanum, vetiver and patchouli in the base. Reviewing it at launch, Lensky found the pineapple richer, closer to tart canned pineapple, over a lavender accord with cinnamon and licorice, and the smoky leather base of the original underneath. He compared its structure to Dior's Sauvage Elixir and called it "evening-oriented." His verdict for Aventus fans: "like a good cover of a favorite song."

Both Fragrantica reviewers say it lasts long, and Masyukov calls it a denser, less diffusive evening fragrance that complements the original rather than replacing it. It suits fall, winter, dinners and anyone who wants Aventus warmer and spicier. It is the most expensive of the four: $450 for 50 ml and $610 for 100 ml.

Also under the name

Creed made a limited Aventus 10th Anniversary edition in 2020, and in October 2026 it added Aventus Édition Artisanale, 500 trunks each holding a 490 ml bottle of the original Aventus with a pipette and a travel atomizer, at $1,800. The Édition Artisanale is the same fragrance in different packaging, so the four above are the ones to choose between.

How to choose

Start with Aventus if you have never worn it: everything else in the line is described against it. If you like the opening but not the smoke, or you want it for summer and the gym, try Aventus Cologne. If you want it warmer, spicier and longer lasting for evenings, try Absolu Aventus. If you want the brightness of Aventus with rose and apple instead of birch, try Aventus For Her.

The men's versions all cost $380 or more for 50 ml, and batches of the original vary, so wear the one you are considering for a few days first. A decant of Aventus next to a sample of the version you are curious about will show you quickly which way you lean.

Questions

What is the difference between Aventus and Aventus Cologne?

Aventus (2010) opens with bergamot, blackcurrant and pineapple and dries down to smoky birch and musk. Aventus Cologne (2019) swaps the blackcurrant for mandarin, ginger and a salty marine accord, with much less smoke, so it reads cleaner and fresher. Creed labels both Eaux de Parfum and prices them the same, $510 for 100 ml.

Is Absolu Aventus stronger than Aventus?

Creed calls Absolu Aventus the most intense expression of Aventus, and Fragrantica's reviewers found it lasts long. It adds cardamom, cinnamon and labdanum to the bergamot and pineapple, so it wears denser and warmer, better suited to evenings and cold weather. It costs more: $610 for 100 ml against $510 for Aventus.

Is Aventus Cologne an Eau de Cologne?

No. Despite the name, Creed labels Aventus Cologne an Eau de Parfum, the same concentration as the original Aventus. The word Cologne signals its lighter, fresher character, built on bergamot, mandarin, ginger and musk, rather than a weaker strength.

Can women wear Aventus, and what is Aventus For Her?

Anyone can wear Aventus. Aventus For Her (2016) is a separate fragrance Creed made for women, with green apple, lemon and Bulgarian rose over patchouli, birch and musk. It shares the bergamot and pineapple accord with Aventus but is rosier and less smoky. Creed sells it at $460 for 75 ml.

Why do Aventus batches smell different?

Creed has never explained it, but wearers have compared Aventus batches since the early 2010s. Fragrantica's Igor Masyukov wrote in 2024 that the intensity of the smoky birch base varied significantly between batches, with some bottles fruitier and fresher than others.
