The composition
Royal Oud opens bright and spiced, with grapefruit and cardamom over a green thread of angelica. Geranium adds a clean floral edge before cedarwood takes over, dry and polished. The oud sits underneath with incense and benzoin, smoky and smooth rather than dark.
It is oud made easy to wear: woody, fresh and quietly refined, at home in an office or at dinner. A good first oud, and a natural fit for anyone who likes cedar-forward scents.
How it wears
Royal Oud is a woody scent that stays bright, so it suits daytime and the office as well as dinner. The grapefruit and cardamom are clearest early; after that, dry cedar carries most of the wear, with incense and benzoin keeping the oud soft and smooth. Reviewers often say it is less about oud than about cedar and spice, and Parfumo voters rate its longevity a little above its sillage.
Compared with
- Oud WoodTom Ford
- The oud it is most often set beside. Oud Wood is creamier, with rosewood, cardamom and sandalwood over tonka and amber, and reviewers find it sits closer to the skin. Royal Oud is brighter and drier, led by grapefruit and cedar.
- Silver Mountain WaterCreed
- Its fresher sibling in our catalog. Silver Mountain Water trades wood and incense for bergamot, blackcurrant and tea over soft musk. Royal Oud is the woodier and smokier of the two.
- VikingCreed
- Viking is a spiced fougère, with peppermint up top and a warm heart of clove, allspice and lavender. Royal Oud has less spice and more wood, built on cedar, incense and a soft oud.

Questions about Royal Oud
Is Royal Oud a strong, dark oud?
No. Creed files Royal Oud under woody and fresh and describes it as a different way to wear oud. Grapefruit, cardamom and cedar lead, and the oud sits softly underneath with incense and benzoin. Reviewers often say it smells more of cedar and spice than of oud.
Is Royal Oud unisex?
Yes. Creed presents Royal Oud as a unisex fragrance in its woody and fresh family, and Fragrantica and Parfumo also list it for women and men. It is an Eau de Parfum, first released in 2011.
Why do Royal Oud's notes differ from site to site?
Creed's current list for Royal Oud names grapefruit and cardamom, then angelica and geranium, over oud, incense, benzoin and cedarwood. Fragrantica carries an older list with pink pepper, lemon, bergamot, galbanum, sandalwood and musk. We list Creed's current notes.
Where is the full bottle of Royal Oud sold?
In the US, Creed sells Royal Oud on its own site and in Creed boutiques, and department stores including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's carry it.
