The composition
Grapefruit and lemon open bright, with mint and pink pepper keeping the citrus crisp. Ginger and nutmeg warm the middle, then incense, cedar and sandalwood settle into a dry, clean wood with a little resin underneath.
A polished, easygoing take on the blue style, tidy enough for a shirt and tie and relaxed enough for a weekend. It keeps its manners in a crowded room.
What wearers say
- Wearers praise it as clean and easy to wear: grapefruit and mint up top, a dry incense and wood base, and a polished feel they call versatile enough for the office or the weekend.
- Many call it popular and familiar, and some find it generic or close to other blue fragrances, while others see that familiarity as exactly why it works.
- Longevity reports vary widely: some get a full day, others a few hours before it sits close to the skin. Most describe projection as moderate.
- A smaller group dislikes the incense in the drydown, calling it smoky or ashtray-like, and a few find it sharp up close.
- People wear it year round, day and night, with spring, summer and fall named most often. Several compare it with the Eau de Parfum, and opinions split on which is better.
Summarized by Cabinet Noir from public reviews on Fragrantica and Basenotes, checked 15 October 2026.
Compared with
- Bleu de Chanel Eau de ParfumChanel
- The Eau de Parfum is rounder and creamier, with amber and a softer incense. This Eau de Toilette is brighter, with more grapefruit and mint over a drier wood.
- Bleu de Chanel ParfumChanel
- The Parfum is darker and denser, built on a heavier woody amber base. The Eau de Toilette stays lighter and more citrus-forward.
- Bleu de Chanel L'ExclusifChanel
- L'Exclusif centers on sandalwood and woods, a richer and more focused scent. The Eau de Toilette is fresher, with citrus, mint and incense in front.

Questions about Bleu de Chanel
Is Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette the original Bleu de Chanel?
Yes. Chanel launched Bleu de Chanel as an Eau de Toilette in 2010. The Eau de Parfum followed in 2014 and the Parfum in 2018, so the Eau de Toilette is the version the others build on.
Has Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette been reformulated?
Chanel has not announced a change. Some wearers on Fragrantica and Basenotes say newer batches smell different from early ones, but these are personal impressions and not confirmed.
Is Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette only for men?
Chanel sells it in its men's fragrance range and Fragrantica lists it as a fragrance for men. Scent has no gender, though, and anyone who likes grapefruit, mint and dry woods can wear it.
Is Bleu de Chanel discontinued?
No. Chanel still makes Bleu de Chanel; it was on sale new as of October 2026.
